Heel, Toe and No Regrets!
Going back to dancing on pointe!?
The story begins like this:
I was almost 4 when my mother decided to enrol me in a classical ballet school. At first I wasn't very enthusiastic, but it didn't take long before I couldn't do without it; dancing became my outlet. I showed a lot of promise, so much so that at every end-of-year recital, in every ballet, I was in pole position.
The lovely dream of becoming a professional dancer ended very early, at around 10 or 11. Unfortunately my parents could no longer afford the costs of both ballet school and piano lessons, and when it came to choosing, I took my mother's advice to give up dancing.
In reality I wanted exactly the opposite: continuing to dance would have meant workshops and attending an academy in the future, and the closest one at the time was in Rome (so expense upon expense), so I chose to give up the dream of becoming a dancer.
Dancing has always remained my passion, even at home, so much so that a year and a half ago, at the end of 2019, having just turned 37, I decided to challenge myself. A stone's throw from the house where I lived there was a classical ballet school, and more than once I wondered what it would be like to go back. One day I asked the teacher whether I could attend, since I was a bit rusty, and the answer was: "Of course, why not?".
Five months to realise that was enough!
Hahahahaha!!!
In October 2019 I enrolled, in January 2020 the joy of getting back on pointe, in March COVID.
"OK!" I told myself, "that's enough!"
I had a lot of fun in those months: my initial "clumsiness" compared with the other girls, sweating buckets over very simple movements that nevertheless required perfect symmetry of the whole body, not to mention my first day on pointe, when after just 15 minutes I couldn't tell whether I still had feet... ouch! The pain!
For many years I wondered how things would have gone if I'd had the chance to keep dancing. I found an answer some time ago: the disappointment of not continuing to study classical ballet surely helped to COMPLETE a piece of the puzzle that brought me exactly where I am now.
Maybe, like me, you've found yourself wondering whether you made the right choice in the past? Know that you can't go back and change it (the past), but today you can entrust your life to the One who, in the "desert" of your life, has already invested in building a road so that you don't get lost.
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
