The Expression that Wasn't There.

I doubted it was me blowing out the candles – 1 year old –

The more candles I blew out year after year, the more my mind filled with  thoughts, and my heart, hungry for love, would have wanted
to tell you this:

"Dad, I wish you were closer to me";
"I wish I could play with you more, Dad";
"Dad, I wish you would hug me";
"I wish you would take me to school, Dad";
"I wish I could tell you about my fears, Dad";
"Dad, I wish..."

I never had the courage to tell you these things, and I think you understand perfectly, because you too, LIKE me, and your father too, LIKE you and me, had the same difficulties I had.
And who knows whether you too, on the day school gave you the poem to recite at home for Father's Day, went
to hide it who knows where, ashamed to express that affection.

Today I feel free to give you my poem:

– Vulturara Irpina –

I love you, Dad. Even though silent and kilometres away, you have been, you are and you will continue to be important in my life.
I know that your cry for help for me reached heaven, and "today" I can finally shine.
Thank you, Dad!
