Which came first, science or my aunt's coat?
My aunt always used to say: I keep that coat, those trousers, that dress in my wardrobe because I know that in twenty years they'll be back in fashion.
Now, I don't want to go against the thinking of a very respectable person, but this is a sign of hoarding, and the point seems to be being able to give or show something later.
Imagine buying a very nice pair of shoes but wearing them only for a few days and then putting them aside because the fashion for that model is over, and they'll surely end up in the cellar for the next twenty years.
What on earth would science say about this? One thing is certain: science studies something that has already happened in order to understand its before and after (in a very simple sense, without playing the scientist).
Now I wonder, studying all this, can we think that our life renews itself every twenty years, or is it a cycle that comes back at a well-defined time?
I want to open you up to reflection, as I am doing myself to write all this to you. You can surely help me by continuing the idea below in the comments. So if we renew ourselves after a certain number of years, then life, in a certain sense, considering deaths and births, becomes a round of situations and conversions, while scientists live within a concept of explanation. But if life becomes a circle for those who hoard and for those who seek explanations, everything becomes inexplicable and we would only have wasted time.
The time we waste thinking we live by renewing ourselves with fashions, generational changes and so on always leads us only to death and nothing else. What will we have left? Nothing, concretely. What remains to us personally is a concept of life that we will take with us to the "grave". Those who instead wanted, in a certain way, to detach themselves from the trend of this worldly way of doing things embraced a healthy concept of life so that already now, from this moment, from the moment of the new thought, they can jump over the "grave" and move ahead, in fact move into eternity. Oh yes! It's a concept, it cannot be proven scientifically. Have you never believed in something in this life? Didn't you believe that Hawaii was a paradise for resting, or that America stands for renewal and futuristic cities compared with Italy, just as Las Vegas is the homeland of fun? We all believe in something that leaves us nothing.
In the end I'm telling you I want to bind myself to something inexplicable and beautiful rather than unreachable, futile and limiting. I want to think big, I want to go beyond a scientific explanation that can prove how long certain rocks have been on earth or how much the polar ice cap has started to melt and so on. I want to believe that a world where everything was born and is living began with something concrete, rather than asking myself the usual question about whether the chicken or the egg came first.
We question ourselves about events that are concrete and concern today in order to then define a past and a present, but right now we are completing this life cycle compared with our parents, and our children will complete ours, but they will never know everything we lived, just as we didn't really know what our parents lived.
I remember studying at school the meeting of Garibaldi and Napoleon at Teano, but who has ever confirmed to me that it might not have happened in a hamlet of Teano or somewhere else? What really happened at that meeting? I wasn't there, I can only believe it and hope it was an important meeting. They made us live with so many "creeds", so why not believe in something beautiful that speaks of love? Why not believe that I am a son of the King, why not believe that I will live forever, why not believe that I can change my life by changing myself first, trying to improve, to be an example of a good example of love? After all, what do I care about putting a coat in a wardrobe just to know it's there, until I see someone decide for me whether I can wear it or not? I want life, my life, what I've been given and what I can enjoy. I'll set the fashion, I'll make the good weather, I'll make my own discovery, I'll be a channel of love.
What does it cost you to think in a new way? It doesn't take science and you don't need to hoard yourself; on the contrary, you need to free yourself and start living eternity, loosening the ties of a trend that wants to crush your head and your existence.
Live your life as a true son of a King, close to your neighbour, ready to serve, and sent to help those who need to feel loved. Seek His love, make it yours and pour it into the lives of others.
We are not the best example of life, but He can help us change, and we also know our mistakes so we can abandon them and let them go.
Inspired by the verse:
Hebrews 1:11-12, 14
They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end." Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
